On Sunday, June 13, 2010, 150 guests gathered at Rose Hill Manor for a surprise joint birthday party. The party was for a father and son. The theme was UVA colors - blue and orange. The entry hall was setup with a bar in one corner, a snack table for the kids, and two hightop tables which had laptops playing a slideshow of pictures of the family. All the guests gathered in the entry hall for the big surprise.
After the guests of honor arrived everyone moved into the grand and small ballrooms where tables were setup along with a dance floor. The tables were decorated with blue and orange linens with alternating colored napkins. Centerpieces were tall blue and orange star balloon arrangements along with blue and orange beaded necklaces and candy mints.
Balloons decorated the balconies of the grand ballroom along with the outside areas, including the pool.
A few tables and white wood chairs were setup outside along with a bar for the guests who wanted to enjoy the nice weather on the patio. A lifeguard was situated at the pool, watching the kids who wanted to swim in the pool.
Other touches were scattered around the manor - family photos on the fireplace mantle, a wedding album of the couple, and even personalized napkins and cups. A photo of the father and son was placed in the entry hall for guests to sign.
A buffet for the adults was in the alcove of the ballroom along with a 'kids' buffet. Windows catering provided the food for both buffets. Dessert included a brownie and ice cream bar with all the fixings, along with fruit. A cupcake truck arrived later in the evening and parked in front of the manor. Guests could walk right up to the cart and enjoy cupcakes.
Speeches and a mini 'roast' of the guests of honor were made and then followed dancing the rest of the evening. The surprise was a huge success and everyone had a great time!
